Improvised Fairytales: Little Red Riding Hood

Get ready for a forest adventure where the only thing being hunted is a good source of fiber!

In this latest "play-within-a-play" from the Twisted Plays series , a group of students finds themselves center stage with an audience, no script, and a terrifying fear of legal action from a certain "House of Mouse". To save the day, the Stage Manager improvises a version of Little Red Riding Hood that is as legally safe as it is ridiculous.

Meet Red, who trades her iconic cape for a trendy "Crimson Hoodie," and her antagonist, "The Guy in the Grey Sweatshirt." Forget the "Big Bad" tropes—this Wolf is a dedicated vegetarian who would much rather offer Red organic kale chips than eat her. Watch as the cast navigates a "forest" made of a single wilting houseplant and a "Grandma" who abandons the plot entirely for a yoga retreat.

The comedy peaks during the "Big Teeth" reveal when, due to a prop closet disaster, the Wolf is forced to wear plastic vampire fangs. It’s a fast-paced, pun-filled production where the only thing "scary" is the Stage Manager’s ability to find props in a trash bin!

Key Features:

  • Flexible Casting: Roles for 9–11 actors plus an optional ensemble of stage crew.
  • Budget-Friendly: Designed for minimal sets and everyday modern clothing.
  • Middle School Humor: Packed with meta-commentary, fourth-wall breaks, and relatable "student actor" struggles.
  • Educational: A great way to teach students about character archetypes and improvisation.

  • Mother: Red’s mom, who provides the "basket" and warnings.
  • The Huntsman: A hero who is more interested in his heroic pose than actual hunting.
